Noosa Australia is known for its superb sunshine coast weather, its beaches and its restaurants. A few times a year its cultural side shines with events such as the Noosa Longweekend, held over 10 days in June.

During the Noosa Longweekend festival the spotlight turns to Noosa culture and the arts, drama, film, dance, Noosa fashion, opera, heritage walks, Noosa food, authors and thought challenging forums.

The event was started in 2001 by well known Australian playwright David Williamson, his wife Kristin (who both live at Noosa on the Sunshine Coast) and Brett Dean a Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra violinist. The intent of the festival was to draw together people across the cultural spectrum to help build Noosa, Queensland as a centre for cultural excellence. Prior to the festival Sunshine Coast residents had to travel to Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney to get their cultural needs met.

From 2010 the Noosa Longweekend Festival is expanding to include Caloundra!

At the Noosa Long weekend, Australia’s leading artists, performers, musicians, orators and authors take centre stage at the many restaurants, galleries and public spaces dotted across the Noosa Map. Previous years have seen performers such as Marina Prior, Piers Lane and Karin Schaupp wow the audience. Actors such as Bryan Brown, Jack Thompson, Robin Nevin have shared the Sunshine Coast spotlight with authors such as Peter Carey, Thomas Keneally and cartoonist Michael Leunig.
