Cast your mind back to when Malibu boards were king of the waves, where longer was better and “hanging ten” was the coolest of the cool. Welcome to the Noosa Festival of Surfing! In March each year, for an entire week, Malibu’s rein supreme in the Sunshine Coast surf at Noosa, Australia.

Over 400 competitors from around the world converge on Noosa on the Sunshine Coast to take part in singles, tandem, stand up paddleboards and grommets to show their Noosa surfing skills on the Mals. You can join in long board themed movie nights, listen to surf music at one of the local Noosa clubs, take part in a surfing memorabilia auction, enjoy the Noosa Queensland beach party and for the grommets – bust some moves at their own dance party.

When the points are working, Noosa surf becomes magical. There are five points to choose from in Noosa Heads, Australia and all have near perfect breaks. Looking at a Noosa Map – they are First Point, Boiling Pot, Tea Tree Bay, Alexandra Bay and Granite Bay. The breaks are known as some of the most consistent for Sunshine Coast surfing.

This Noosa event is getting bigger each year and is known for having a great family atmosphere that takes full advantage of the warm March Noosa weather. If you are not crash hot on a Malibu, you or your family can always pick up some tips from one of the regular surfing schools at Noosa.
