The weather is cool but not cold. You have changed into your swimming costume, put on your swimming cap and started the walk along the path through the Noosa Heads National Park to Tea Tree Bay, Noosa Queensland for the annual Noosa Blue Water Swim. A feeling of anticipation builds as the group is sorted into elite swimmers and people with different skill levels, male and female groups.

Ahead of you is either 2km, 1km or 500 metres of blue ocean water, around the heads at Noosa, Sunshine Coast and back to Main Beach, Noosa. The elite athletes wade out over the sloping rocks to the first bank – ready set go. They are off, out past the booeys and around the headland. Soon it is your turn, the water is cool, but your adrenalin kicks in. The Noosa weather still has a touch of warmth to it. Maybe this year you will pick up part of one of the richest open water/ocean swims in Australia.

You breathe to your left and look at the rocky outcrops on your way to the beach. The water is clear and easy swimming. You get to the final sand bank, puffing but pleased that you did it. Maybe next year is your year to get a PB at the Noosa swim. Hey maybe you could give the Noosa triathlon a go too!
